2001 Election Results and VALCV Endorsed Candidates

All state Delegate seats were up for election in 2001 along with Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General. Our endorsement procedure was strictly nonpartisan and objective, based on returns of our questionnaire, candidate interviews, and the candidates’ public records. VALCV was very involved in certain targeted Delegate races in 2001 where our involvement often made the difference in a win or loss for conservation. Our direct mail pieces to voters, newspaper advertisements, and staff and volunteer Get-Out-The-Vote efforts were pivotal in getting our message out about what was at stake in the elections with sprawl and the environment. Many Virginians voted accordingly. The winning candidates acknowledged VALCV as one of the most potent, effective forces behind their success.

We look forward to working with our endorsed candidates, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, in their new roles as Governorand Lt. Governor. They have expressed a sincere desire to promote conservation in their program goals as well as provide for the necessary funds to accomplish these goals. Your support has helped us to elect conservation advocates who will strive to elevate Virginia’s environment to top priority status in state government.
