About the Virginia League of Conservation Voters

We Virginians cherish our heritage. We also love our land. We all want clean air, clean water, preservation of our heritage, and protection of our farmland and forests.

Too often, however, our government has allowed our history to be paved over, our air and waters to become polluted, and our productive land to be wasted in poorly planned development projects.

Virginia deserves elected officials who are responsive to the people. To give us a strong political voice and electoral force for conservation and preservation, the Virginia League of Conservation Voters (VALCV) was formed in the spring of 2000.

VALCV is one of 33 state LCVs across the country, modeled on the national LCV in Washington which focuses on conservation at the national level.

VALCV rates legislators based on their voting records on conservation issues. Click here to see the 2007 Conservation Scorecard.

A Strong Political Voice

VALCV is the statewide nonpartisan political action arm of Virginia's conservation community.

VALCV is the only organization dedicated solely to legislative advocacy and direct political action on behalf of the conservation issues defined by local, regional, and state organizations. We are different from many conservation organizations because we get directly involved in political campaigns where our conservation message can make a winning electoral difference.

We must accept the challenge to protect Virginia's natural resources, our abundant wildlife, and our irreplaceable historic sites if we care about the kind of Virginia we leave to our children.

We need every citizen who cares about our future to join our efforts to become the strongest possible force for conservation.
